ADMISSIONS: Tuition Assistance Program

As attention to academic programs and faculty development grow at FPDS, so do the associated expenses.  We understand that, at some point, tuition can become an obstacle for some families.  Since we do not wish to lose any student or keep any student away because of tuition, the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is being offered to any FPDS family who has a need.  Below are a few common questions regarding this program.

What is the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)?

TAP is a program, administered by FPDS, that fills the tuition gap for those families who have children enrolled in the school and have a genuine financial need.

Who may apply for TAP?

A family who has children enrolled at FPDS in grades 1-12 is eligible to apply for TAP.  Once a prospective student in grades 1-12 has completed the admissions process and been accepted his or her family may apply for TAP.

How does the application process work?

Your application packet includes the application and a cover letter explaining the details of the process, including a time-line of events.   FPDS uses a third party to review and evaluate your application.  The School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) is an arm of the Educational Testing Service, and provides an objective and confidential review of your application.  SSS advises the Business office, by confidential letter, the amount that you should be able to contribute toward your child's tuition.  Once received, that information is summarized and presented to the school's Tuition Assistance Review Committee, made up of three handpicked members of the Board of Trustees.  This committee reviews the summarized information and any special circumstances that you may have communicated, and makes a determination regarding the level of assistance.

How long does the process take?

It typically takes five to six weeks to go through the entire process, from the time you complete your application, to the date you receive word from the Tuition Assistance Review Committee.

Is there a cost to apply?

Yes.  There is a $22 fee assessed by SSS to process the application.  This fee remains fixed whether the application is for one or multiple children.

Is my application confidential?

Absolutely.  We understand that a family's financial situation is a very personal matter.  TAP application materials are kept in secured files in the Business Office, only accessible by "need to know" staff.

Is there a deadline to apply?

Yes and No.  There is not a specific deadline for consideration; however, the TAP Review Committee meets in mid-April, at which time much of the funding will be committed.  If you are interested, please contact the Business Office today for an application.

How may I apply for TAP?

It's simple.  To request an application, simply call the Business Office at 477-6505, and ask for Charlie Parrish (ext.104) or Kay Sexton (ext.114).  We will get an application in the mail to you by the next business day.
