Winner of the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award: Doug Williams '76

The 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award is awarded to Doug Williams from the class of 1976. Mr. Williams is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Capital Bank in Atlanta. 

After 25 years of service he retired last year from Wachovia Corporation as Managing Director and Head of the International Corporate Finance Group with responsibility for Wachovia’s investment banking and corporate finance activities in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Upon retirement Doug and several colleagues began raising funds to open a new bank. This bank, Atlantic Capital Bank, opened this past May in Atlanta as the largest independent de novo bank in the history of the United States, raising over $125 million in initial capitalization.

Over the years Doug has served as an elder in his church and on the boards of the Atlanta YMCA and Whitefield Academy. He also has served on the boards of the ABA Securities Association, the Visiting Nurse Association of Metropolitan Atlanta and the Global Business Roundtable at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. He is a committee member of Young Life Northwest Atlanta.

Doug and his wife Betsy live in Atlanta with their three daughters Caroline, Sarah, and Anna. We are proud to honor Doug Williams with the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award.
