The Choirs of First Presbyterian Day School
The FPD Choral Department is one of several performing arts departments at FPD. It is a ministry of and to the school, staff and community of Macon. The department is in its third year of development and continues to grow each year. It began in 2003 with 24 students and has grown to 70 students this year! They sing at many public venues in Macon as well as on their annual spring trip. Christmas is an exciting time because of the opportunities that are available for them to sing. The spring stays busy as we prepare to perform for judges at GMEA festival, give a spring concert and perform a choreographed number for our spring trip.
The Chorus department sponsors the annual FPD Talent Show, Parent’sNight Out, Dinner and A Show, a dinner served before the Theater Production in the spring; and Spring Trip as well as their concerts given throughout the year!
Currently the Choral Department has 4 choirs:

Choral Director
Ellen McLemore
Ellen McLemore, FPD’s Choral Director, has had a lifelong love of music beginning with the piano. As a young girl she studied piano and in high school became involved with the chorus. She graduated from Wesleyan College with a degree in Music Education. Her primary fields of study were voice and choral conducting. Previous conducting and teaching experience include teaching many Macon children piano and working as a Bibb County elementary music specialist where she also directed several choruses. She has also directed in a high school choral program here in Macon.
During a hiatus from the classroom to raise her family, Mrs. McLemore directed several children’s choirs in churches where she and her family lived not only in Macon, but also in Louisiana and Texas. Her church ministry has also included being an accompanist for various ensembles and choirs. She continues her work in her church as the coordinator of the children’s choir program.
Mrs. McLemore has a wonderful husband who is FPD alum and four children all of whom attend First Presbyterian and are proud to be Vikings
