Region 2AAA Champions!

For the first time in the 20 year history of a boys soccer program the team has won a region championship. The Vikings entered their final region match against Tattnall Square needing a win to clinch the 2AAA title. This year's region includes 4 of the top 5 ranked team on the GISA state rankings. In the newly formed 2 region format the Vikings competed with Stratford, Mount De Sales, Tattnall, Deerfield and Central Fellowship. The region proved to be the most dominant one in the state which made the championship even more special. The game with Tattnall was dominated by the Vikings from the start and the score was 2-0 just 3 minutes into the match. The final score was a convincing 7-1 and that put the Vikings at the top of the region. The team was 17-2-3 and 8-1-1 in region play. The 17 wins ties a school record and the record will also be broken for the fewest losses which is currently 6.

B-Team defeats Stratford + Frederica

FPD has built a dominant JV boys program over the last 5 years and the team once again had a great finish to the 2007 season. At the annual B-Team Championship tournament the Vikings entered as the 5th overall seed. Up first was Stratford Academy. The Vikings had been defeated by the Eagles 6-0 and then tied 2-2 in their second match. The 3rd time proved to be the best for the Vikings and they defeated Stratford 3-1 in the opening round. Mount De Sales, the eventual champion, defeated the Vikings in round 2 and looked every part of the top seed in the tournament. In their final match FPD saw a new opponent and the tournament's #2 overall seeed, Frederica Academy. The Vikings built an early lead and never looke back. The final was 3-0 and the team finished 2-1 and the championship tournament. Congratulations to Coach Kilpatrick and all the members of the 2007 B-team squad.

Viking Seniors record 50th Varsity soccer win!

The 2007 senior soccer players have accomplished some amazing things in their FPD soccer careers. One thing that has been accomplished with the region win over Central Fellowship is the group recording their 50th career varsity win. The seniors, McKenzie Clayton, Coleman Collins, Caleb Foxworth, Tyler Ricketson, and Will Scott, have themselves in a position to win the first boys Region Championship in school history. FPD plays at Tattnall in their final Region 2AAA match on Tuesday, October 16 and with a win the Vikings will be Region Champions. The Vikings have 16 wins on the season and are just 1 away from the school record of 17. With 2 regular season matchs left the Vikings hope to break the records before the playoffs begin.

2007 RECORD BREAKERS

Just 3 weeks into the 2007 season the varsity program has seen 2 career records fall. Jon Adams and Andrew Scott have both established new records for career goals and career assists. With their outstanding seasons in 2006 both players were set to break the records early in the 2007 season. For Adams, he needed only a pair of goals to break the career scoring record of 45 goals. He is currently second in the GISA with 14 goals and the current junior may set a record that will stand for a very long time. Scott, also a junior, needed 3 assists to establish a new record. He was able to reach that total in the 8th match of the season. Both records have stood for several years and the career goals has been in place for almost 7 years. Several other records are on the verge of being broken in 2007, both for individual records and team records. Go Vikings!

FPD wins Viking Cup XVII

For the first time in nearly 10 years the boys varsity soccer team won the Viking Cup tournament. The Vikings had the rare opportunity to play 3 matches in a single day due to the postponed match on the second day of the tournament. After defeating Calvary Christian 6-1 on the opening night the Vikings swept their Saturday opponents which included Dominion (7-0), John Milledge (4-0), and Mount De Sales (4-3) in the championship match. The win against Mount De Sales was a special one as the Cavaliers put FPD out of the 2006 GISA playoffs. The Vikings had three members elected to the Viking Cup All Tournament team. Jon Adams, Tyler Ricketson, and Mark Scott were all awarded with the awards after the championship mat h on Saturday night.

FPD Plays for 4th straight B-Team Showcase Championship.

The 2007 FPD B-team made the Showcase tournament a special one and the Vikings played in their 4th straight championship match. Along the way FPD defeated Central Fellowship 6-1 and Trinity Christian 4-0 to make the championship match. The Vikings saw a new opponent in the final match. First Presbyterian Christian from Hinesville defeated local teams Mount De Sales and Stratford during the group play to make the championship. FPD kept things close but were edged 2-1 in the final. For their outstanding play during the tournament Andy Chambless, Lindsay Duncan, and Brandon Smith were selected to the All-Tournament team. Way to go Vikings!
