Center for Discovery

FPD’s Center for Discovery is a beyond-the-classroom learning experience with camps and classes in the fall, spring, and summer. All programs are open to the community. Through the Center for Discovery students as well as adults can enjoy multiple opportunities to learn a new hobby or enhance their knowledge in art, academics, and athletics.

SAT Practice Course
For students in grades 10 or 11

During each session, students will receive instruction for the verbal and math as well as practice test questions. The purpose of this 12 hour SAT class is to offer test familiarity with the SAT, review math concepts and verbal skills expected on the SAT, and to reduce test anxiety associated with this kind of test.  Although we cannot guarantee an increase in scores, test familiarity and practice strengthens that possibility.  Students will rotate through a strategy session and sample test with Brad Thompson, FPD Director of College Counseling, a Math session with Betty Ham, FPD High School Math Faculty, and a Verbal session with Kristy Alvarez, FPD High School English Faculty.

Instructor: Brad Thompson, FPD Director of College Counseling
Dates: February 21, 22, 27, 28, March 6, 7
Time: 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Location: FPD High School Building
Cost: $110

Fall & Spring Before Class Care – 3:15 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
FPD students who are participating in a Center for Discovery class at 3:45 p.m. are invited to participate in a complimentary snack period in the FPD Media Center before their class begins. This care and snack is provided at no additional charge for FPD parents who have students enrolled in a Center for Discovery class that day. Please note – for classes beginning later than 3:45 p.m., parents will need to pick up their student after school or enroll them in FPD’s Extended Day. Before Camp Care is only provided until 3:45 p.m. and only for students who are enrolled in Center for Discovery classes on the day of care.

Summer Camp Before & After Care
FPD understands that Summer Camps don’t always fit into busy life schedules. FPD’s Before & After Camp Care can help. Students enrolled in a Center for Discovery Summer Camp may be dropped off at the Summer Day Care Center, located in the FPD Kindergarten Building, as early as 7:30 a.m. on the days of their camps. When it’s time for camp, a Before & After Camp Care staff member will escort each student to his or her camp. After the camp is over, a staff member will escort each student back for an afternoon of fun. Fees are billed only for hours your child is with the Before & After Camp Care staff.  Families registered for all day Before & After Camp Care for the entire week pay $109 for the week.
