On Thursday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m., FPD will open its new, eight tennis courts with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by the first home tennis match of the 2018 season.

Construction of the new tennis courts began in Summer 2017 and is part of Phase 1 of a South Campus Athletic Complex. Phase 1 will also include an expanded Peake Cross Country Trail, practice field, and nature trail when completed.

“This is a game changer for our tennis program,” said Head Tennis Coach, Derek Lashley. “Our previous facility experienced weather damage and was no longer playable for tournaments. This limited our opportunities to expand our program on campus and host home events. We are thankful for the community venues that welcomed our teams for practice and tournaments, but we are excited to bring those events back on campus.”

In addition to expanding its middle school and high school tennis program, FPD Tennis anticipates starting an elementary academy using the new facility as well as hosting various tournaments for the first time on campus. In addition, the new complex will allow for multiple summer events and camps bringing added exposure to the program and our student-athletes.

“FPD has a rich tennis history sending its students to play at such notable programs Florida, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Mercer, Furman, Kennesaw State and more. We hope this new expansion will help us build on the tradition,” said Lashley.
