The FPD Robotics team took home a first place finish at the Region Competition on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Southern Polytechnical University in McDonough.

The win for FPD is the first since 2010.

FPD will now advance to the state competition for the first time in school history on Feb. 8, 2014.

Robotics adviser Tami Jerles says the team put in a lot of hours and came together nicely to win the title.

“We worked for 27 meetings, put in about 65 hours, consumed 40 Halloween-sized bags of candy and then worked a 14-hour day on Saturday,” Jerles said. “Now they’ve made it to state for the first time since our program began four years ago.

Jerles was still nervous when the squad was competing. though.

“Despite all of their hard work, I was still anxious when on Thursday, they decided to move a motor and mount a new chain to the robot,” Jerles said. ” Prayers really calmed me down and were visibly answered as the student’s handled conflicts under pressure.”

Added Jerles: “We are so proud of them!”
