FPD Alumni Awards

FPD recognizes alumni with two awards presented during the FPD Homecoming activities.

To nominate an individual for the FPD Service Award and the Distinguished Alumni Award contact Lauren Jones via email. Nominations are accepted up until three weeks prior to Homecoming.

Distinguished Alumni Award

The Distinguished Alumni Award goes to an alumnus/alumna who has made an outstanding contribution through his/her vocation or who otherwise deserves to be recognized for outstanding achievement in some field or endeavor – an individual who has “changed the world for God’s glory.”

Our 2025 Winner: The Hon. Ken Smith, '98

Growing up on a farm in Crawford County, Ken Smith attended First Presbyterian Day School from 4K through graduation in 1997. Though sports injuries kept him off the playing field, Ken discovered a different path—one that would ultimately lead him to serve his community through the law.

After beginning his undergraduate studies at Emory University, Ken transferred to Mercer University, where he completed his degree and later earned an M.B.A. He initially envisioned a career in business and entrepreneurship; however, God redirected his path and led him to enroll at Mercer Law School. His participation in the Moot Court program ignited his passion for advocacy and set the stage for a career in law.

Ken married his wife, Amanda, in 2007, shortly after graduating and passing the bar exam. Together, they are proud parents of two current Vikings: daughters Lacey, ‘30, and McKenna, ‘35.

Professionally, Ken has built a respected legal career marked by dedication, advocacy, and service. He has tried numerous cases and represented clients in a wide range of matters, earning the admiration of colleagues and his community. In January 2024, through the support of friends and colleagues, Governor Brian Kemp appointed him to the Superior Court bench in the Macon Judicial Circuit, where he now serves Bibb, Peach, and Crawford Counties.

He also serves as a volunteer coach for FPD’s Mock Trial Team. 

From farm life to the courtroom, Ken’s journey reflects resilience, faith, and a deep commitment to serving others.

FPD Service Award

The FPD Service Award goes to an individual who has shown continued service and support to First Presbyterian Day School. This award is presented on an annual basis, if candidates are deemed worthy.

Our 2025 Winner: King Kemper, '90

King Kemper is a 1990 FPD graduate. After finishing his undergraduate degree at Auburn University, he moved back to Macon in 1995, where he began his career as a Commercial Real Estate Broker with the Summit Group.  

That same year, at the age of 23, King became the Public Address announcer for the FPD football team. This year marks King’s 30th and final season in this role.  

King has also served FPD on the alumni board on two different occasions, as well as, serving as a community coach for FPD Middle School football for 8 years.  

In addition to serving at FPD, King’s Community involvement has included: the current board chair for the GA Industrial Children’s Home, former Executive Director of the Macon Sports Hall of Fame, and former Executive Director of the Macon TD Club.  

King is a 2006 Graduate of Leadership Macon, where he also served on the Board.  

King’s wife, Katie, is a current high school science teacher at FPD as well as the varsity Spirit Cheer Coach. They have 3 children: Avery Kemper,’21, Cook Kemper, ‘22, and Amelia Kemper, ‘26.  

We are grateful for King’s 30 years of faithful service and celebrate the lasting impact he has made on his community and alma mater.
