From classical compositions to contemporary jazz, our comprehensive curriculum introduces students to a wide range of musical styles and composers. Students can explore their passion for music by joining one of our many band options, including Concert Band, Marching Band, and Jazz Ensemble, all under the expert direction of FPD Band Director Jonathan Baker.

FPD’s band program begins in fifth grade. Students learn fundamental playing techniques, music reading, musical notation, and rhythm concepts.

Seventh & eighth grade band is a continuation of instrumental music with more complex rhythmic patterns, expanded range on the instrument, and more technical facility. Musicians continue with fundamental training to prepare them for the next level of playing.

Students enrolled in this class have two to four years of previous music experience. They perform several times throughout the school year at competitions, festivals, school concerts and more.

The Spirit of the Vikings Marching Band and Vanguard represents FPD during football halftime shows and at marching festivals and competitions. The FPD Marching Band consistently receives superior recognitions at state and regional competitions. Band members are eligible from 7th – 12th grade.

The FPD Jazz Ensemble introduces students to the art of jazz music. The Jazz Ensemble has performed at the Grand Opera House as well as multiple local events. The group meets before school and participation is by audition.
