Chess for Kids

For boys and girls in grades 2 – 6

Chess is an old game that can be learned by young children.  Waging a war on an 8×8 grid can be fun and carries many benefits for learning and development. Chess players learn to use high-order thinking skills, analyze actions and consequences, and visualize future problems. Students gain insight into the nature of competition and strengthen patience, perseverance and grit. Students in the course will learn basic rules and strategies for playing and completing chess games.

Rhythms and Moves

For boys and girls in grades 3K – 1

We will incorporate movement and music to learn simple basic gymnastic skills, coordination, and large-motor skills.

Makers Space

For boys and girls in grades K – 2

We will provide a wide range of assorted materials and supplies that students can use to create exciting things with their imagination. Children who create develop stronger problem-solving skills. When children are given the time, space, and supplies to create, they are developing important skills they will use throughout their lifetime! Grab a friend and sign up. CODE IT: More Than Coding

For boys and girls in grades 2 – 5

Does your student love navigating how things work on a computer? CODEMOJI’s computer science programs is for 2nd-5th graders and our mission is simple: teach students to enjoy all things related to coding and the web while building problem solving and creative thinking skills. Our staff of professional programmers and educators deliver clear, entertaining instruction to ensure students have fun while learning complex coding skills using popularized emojis that represent HTML text, which lowers the barriers to new coders and increases their excitement and understanding of computer science. Students build animations, websites, and video games; explore multiple coding languages; program robots; create STEM-based projects both on and off line; and are encouraged to share their projects when they get home.

Viking Softball League

For girls grades 2 – 5

Come have some fun and learn the fundamentals of softball.  Join us for a fun filled action packed season of skills and drills. This is a great way to continue to improve your fielding, throwing, hitting and a great way to be introduced to the game. Open to any one in the community, come and bring a friend and enjoy the game of softball. All players will need a glove and helmet. All players will receive a softball jersey. One day will be skills training, the other day will be scrimmages or game like situations depending on how many participants will have.  The time of scrimmages/ game like situations may differ depending on number of participants.

Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays, March and April (no sessions on March 30-April 3)

Viking Tennis Academy

For boys and girls grades K – 5

The FPD Tennis Academy seeks to grow the love of tennis in new and current tennis players through sharpening their skills and techniques in a fun, challenging, and competitive environment.

Mondays: K – 2nd grade

Golf Squad

For boys and girls in grades K – 5

Golf Squad is coming to First Presbyterian Day School! Golf Squad is for both new and continuing students and provides weekly opportunities for your child to learn the technical swing mechanics (i.e. putting, chipping, full swing, etc.) as well as the social skills required to enjoy golf, the clubs, and golf course (i.e. vocabulary, etiquette, rules, history, etc.) all under the instruction of an LPGA or PGA Professional. Golf is a very challenging and fun sport that can lead to college scholarships. So start early and start now…boys and girls!  Even if your child already plays, it is great to enjoy weekly, convenient lessons from the pro.

Pickleball for Kids

For boys and girls in grades 3 – 5

Come join the Middle Georgia Pickleball Ambassador for some fun. Pickleball is a great chance to learn improve hand-eye coordination, to learn how to work with others, and to get some exercise in a fun and exciting environment. Once you try it you will be hooked!

Elementary Cross Country

For boys and girls in grades 3 – 5

Do you love to run? Do you want to learn the proper technique and skills to become a better runner for middle school cross country? Come and get some exercise and learn about running. Join us each week as we run on the Peake Cross Country Trail. We will train and end our season with an elementary cross country meet. Bring your running shoes, a water bottle, and we will have a great time. We will conclude our session with a race on March 23.
