Intentional Education

FPD’s focus on intentionality spreads from academics to co-curriculars and is all woven together based on a biblical foundation. Students enjoy small class sizes in which they are seen and known by godly teachers who encourage creative problem-solving, discovery, and engagement.

OptimizedImage,OptimizedIn kindergarten, a full-time teacher is assisted by a full-time paraprofessional to ensure differentiation based on various learning modalities, and small groups provide for one-on-one instructional time. Students participate in structured play during centers to develop social and fine motor skills. We also host special events like a special breakfast for fathers and Muffins with Mom. Kindergarten is offered as a half-day and full-day program.

First grade is a big year of reading.

We explore different genres through whole group shared reading and flexible reading groups. Students also become independent writers focusing on fun learning experiences that cover a variety of topics including science, and social studies. In math, we learn through daily written practice, math games, and using manipulatives.

First Graders in Library

Reading and learning soar at full speed for FPD’s second graders.

Children are discovering God’s beauty and creativity through our study of the human body, dinosaurs, and the butterfly life cycle. Enjoying classics, such as Amelia Bedelia and Frog and Toad stories is a fun tradition we hold in second grade. Lastly, we gain an understanding of our place in this world through the study of all 50 of our United States.

into novels, build comprehension, and enjoy independent reading time. Spelling includes weekly word tests, and writing happens all over—journals, portfolios, and even handwriting practice with cursive! Grammar is taught through fun lessons. Math tackles hands-on, real-world problems and a spiraling approach to keep skills sharp. Social Studies explores communities, history, and ancient Egypt, while science is full of experiments in the lab. Bible lessons focus on the Old and New Testaments.

Fourth graders are changing classes.

Students rotate between three classrooms for Math, Language Arts, and Science/Social Studies.

Hands-on learning continues through a novel-based approach to reading and various writing projects in Language Arts, a spiral approach to math concepts that supports “productive struggle,” and maintains high cognitive demand in Math, and unit-related research-based Science/Social Studies content. Students are also being taught to use technology in their learning for study tools, class PowerPoint and Wixie presentations, Blooket, and Quizlets. 4th grade violin practice

Fifth graders build on all they’ve learned in other grade levels.

While preparing for the big transition to middle school, students have a balanced approach to coursework with hands-on experiences and traditional, paper/pencil. We also utilize our tablets in preparation for middle school. Students enjoy exciting field trips to the Georgia Aquarium and the annual 5th-grade Washington DC trip. We are involved chorus or band, and as the “seniors” of the elementary school we grow as leaders through activities like Safety Patrol and leading worship at chapel.
