First Presbyterian Day School is pleased to announce the addition of girls varsity gymnastics to its line of sports options for students, making it the only school in Macon to provide this opportunity.

The first season of competition will begin in February and run through the end of the GHSA season in April.

FPD will partner with The Gym Nest in Macon for training facility and equipment usage with practices set to begin the week of January 13.

“We’re excited about the beginning of a new program at our school,” said Greg Moore, Athletic Director for FPD. “The opportunity for our students to do something they love while representing our school in gymnastics is one we look forward to exploring in the years ahead.”

The school began conversations regarding the possibility of a gymnastics program two years ago.  Currently, there are over 50 schools in the GHSA that compete in gymnastics.

Chelsea Wegesin was selected as head coach and Sarah Nixon as assistant coach.

“We are fortunate to have Coach Wegesin and Coach Nixon on board working with our girls,” Moore said, “ and we are thankful for the Gym Nest in their partnership with us.”
