FPD is excited to introduce you to Dr. Stephen Jordan who will join TEAM FPD this summer as the Director of Spiritual Life. Originally from the small town of Elkin, North Carolina, Dr. Stephen Jordan is currently the Campus Pastor at Liberty Christian Academy (LCA) in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he ministers to roughly 1,800 students and leads nearly 200 faculty/staff members.
Prior to assuming the role of Campus Pastor, he served as a high school Bible teacher at LCA for nearly a decade, teaching courses such as Apologetics, Biblical Ethics, and Introduction to Bible. During his time at Liberty Christian Academy, Dr. Jordan created an apologetics program that remains an integral part of the Bible department, planned and led numerous class trips, including a ninth-grade trip to the Creation Museum and Ark outside Cincinnati, Ohio, oversaw the chapel program from PreK through twelfth grade, led faculty/staff devotions regularly, counseled students who were struggling in their faith journey, and helped direct the Christian Service (CSER) program in addition to spearheading service opportunities for students in the Lynchburg community.
Dr. Jordan is also a Bible teacher at Liberty University Online Academy (LUOA), teaching the following courses: Apologetics, Survey of the Bible, Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, Living a Godly Life, and A Godly Man. Additionally, he has written several Bible courses (Apologetics, Survey of the Bible, Old Testament Survey, and New Testament Survey) for LUOA that thousands of students across the world have taken over the years.
In addition to his roles at LCA and LUOA, Dr. Jordan is an Associate Editor and Contributor at www.moralapologetics.com, where he serves on the Moral Apologetics leadership team and regularly contributes articles pertaining to theology, apologetics, literature, and culture, among other things. He also serves as a Senior Research Fellow at The Center for the Foundations of Ethics at Houston Baptist University, where he functions as a resource to undergraduate and graduate students who are taking courses related to moral apologetics.
Prior to the roles mentioned above, Dr. Jordan served as Associate/Youth Pastor at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in State Road, North Carolina, for over three years, where his main responsibilities included leading students in weekly Bible studies, facilitating opportunities for students to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving others in the community, and planning and leading several mission trips to various states. During his time as Associate/Youth Pastor, he also taught courses (Genesis 1-11 and Disciplines of Discipleship) at a Seminary Extension in Elkin, North Carolina, for a year where he developed his love for engaging students with the truths of God’s Word in an educational setting.
Dr. Jordan holds a bachelor’s in education and youth ministry and four graduate degrees – MAR in Church Ministries, MRE, MDiv in Professional Ministries, ThM in Church History and Theology. He also holds a Ph.D. in Theology and Apologetics from Liberty University. While completing his Ph.D., he was able to study under two of the world’s leading scholars in the field of Christian apologetics – Dr. Gary Habermas, the world’s leading expert on evidence for the resurrection of Jesus, and Dr. David Baggett, the world’s leading expert on the moral argument for God’s existence.
Head of School, Dr. Patterson commented, “There is so much I could say about adding a person of Dr. Jordan’s expertise in God’s Word, character, and understanding of spiritual formation, but most importantly, I cannot wait to see the impact Dr. Jordan has on TEAM FPD and specifically on the students who we are daily educating and equipping for God’s glory. Dr. Jordan is a proven leader in this role, and he is someone that is needed in every Christian school. I am humbled by his decision to move his family and join Viking Nation.”
Dr. Jordan and his wife, McKenzie, have four children, three of whom will be attending FPD starting in August. Their four children are Audrey (2nd grade), Hudson (Kindergarten), Hadley (3K in August), and Micah (9 months). In his spare time, Dr. Jordan enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors, sports, reading, coffee and tea, and building relationships with people over good food. His goal in life is to know Jesus and make Him known, and his favorite verse is 1 Corinthians 16:13-14, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”
