First Presbyterian Day School is pleased to announce that Greg Nix has been hired as a History teacher and Head Boys’ Basketball coach for the Vikings.  Coach Nix brings 29 years of experience in education and coaching basketball.  Most recently, Coach Nix served as the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, GA, for 11 years following stints totaling 12 years in the Houston County school system.  Coach Nix is originally from Alabama, where he graduated from Jacksonville State University before completing graduate work at Georgia College & State University and Piedmont College.  Coach Nix served at three different high schools in Alabama before coming to Georgia.

We are grateful for the foundation laid by Coach Chapman. Our boys’ basketball program has enjoyed great success, and our goal was to continue that tradition when we set out to find a new coach,” said FPD Athletic Director, Greg Moore. “We feel like Greg Nix is a great fit. He is organized, disciplined, unselfish, and he brings very valuable experience running some big programs to our school.”

Head Coach, Jason Eaker, Oklahoma Baptist University reached out to congratulate FPD for hiring Coach Nix saying, “So thrilled to hear Coach Nix will be the next basketball coach at FPD. He is an excellent coach, but an even better man that I trusted and confided in while on the Mercer staff. He is full of wisdom and goodness.”

While at Mary Persons, Coach Nix’s teams broke several records, including most wins in a season, a Top Ten ranking for the entire season, and a first appearance in the Sweet 16 for the school since 1968.  Coach Nix was the first-ever head coach at Veterans High School in 2010, making a state playoff appearance in the second year of the school’s existence in 2012.

In addition to coaching basketball, Coach Nix will assist in middle school football in the Fall.  He is a Masters-level, Tier II Leadership teacher, and he will spend his school day teaching in our High School History department. Greg and his wife, Cherri, have been married 33 years, and they have 3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and one granddaughter. Viking Nation, we welcome Coach Nix to TEAM FPD!
