Dear Parents of 5th through 12th Graders,

We are excited about our One to One initiative and greatly appreciate your patience and perseverance as we’ve ironed out the connection challenges. At this point in time the underlying issues have been resolved and all students should be able to connect to the FPD Network with access to all student resources needed for class. If your son or daughter is still unable to connect, please have him/her drop by the IT Help Desk as soon as possible. Some Operating System settings need to be changed in order to restore connectivity.

We have also addressed our campus wireless network and resolved the shortcomings of the primary structure that was causing routine connection drops during class. While we are continuing to work at optimizing our network to eliminate all drops, we have a very stable environment that is experiencing only a handful of drops during the school day. This connectivity issue early on created some problems with students setting up their OneNote folders. With this corrected all students should be able to set up the appropriate shares with their teachers and fully utilize the power of this program. Our IT Help desk staff will assist any students with OneNote.

Lastly we had approximately 30 students who were unable to join class sessions via DyKnow due to a problem with user names over 20 characters. We’re working with DyKnow to resolve this and have a workaround to allow consistency across software applications. This has been resolved as well and teacher and student interaction with their tablet resources are fully functional.

I want to publicly thank David Bass, John Smith, Seth Boyett, Sy Jones and the ACS team led by George Barnes and Henry Mahler, for their tireless efforts in digging through the complicated challenges these various issues presented. They were able to draw on high level programmers and troubleshoot the various components (Microsoft, Aerohive, etc.) to achieve a full solution. I was pleased to hear from these engineers that our network and system setup design was as it should be as they joined in the search for the code conflicts.

Thank you for your understanding and support. It’s a privilege partnering with you. Please let us know how we can serve your student’s needs.

Because He is faithful,

Gregg Thompson
