As FPD gets set to host its first on-campus Area Cross Country Meet on Wednesday, October 24, we wanted to check-in with Mary Jayne Bonfim (’19) and Connor Moore (’19), the two captains of the our cross country teams, to get their thoughts on the season and running for the Vikings.

What year did you first start running Cross Country for FPD?

Mary Jayne: I started running cross country in sixth grade.

Connor: I started running my eighth grade year.

What do you like most about running Cross Country and being on FPD’s team?

Mary Jayne: I like hanging out with my teammates and making fun memories that I will always remember. I like how the coaches sometimes run with us and care about us improving as a team.

Connor: I enjoy the people that I’ve run with. I’ve been so lucky to have met so many awesome people through this sport and have made plenty of friendships throughout the years.

As captains of the teams, what is your role?

Mary Jayne: My role as captain is to help our team improve and enjoy hanging out with each other. Also to help them create fun and enjoyable memories.

Connor: My role is to keep everyone in line, make sure they’re doing what they need to do during practice and help the team succeed.

What do you think of FPD’s new Cross Country course?

Mary Jayne: Our new course is awesome because we get to host meets and practice on our home course. The new course is very challenging, but very helpful in our training because it prepares us for easier courses and helps us get better!

Connor: I enjoy it. It’s nice to have a home course where we have the advantage and can put in plenty of work.

Good luck at the Area Meet to all our runners!
