First Presbyterian Day School (FPD) is proud to announce that Mr. Brad Thompson has been named Head Coach of the FPD Cross Country team. With a deep passion for running and a longstanding dedication to the FPD community, Coach Thompson brings extensive experience and leadership to this new role.

Coach Thompson is entering his 27th year at First Presbyterian Day School, where he has faithfully served in multiple capacities. He has spent 12 years in the classroom as a teacher and has guided countless students on their academic journeys as FPD’s College Counselor for 15 years.

A seasoned coach, Mr. Thompson has held several coaching roles across FPD athletics, including:

  • Head Coach for JV Football

  • Middle School Football Coach

  • Head Coach for Middle School Girls Basketball

  • Head Coach for JV Baseball

  • Head Coach for Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis

  • Assistant Coach for Middle School Cross Country (since 2018)

His coaching philosophy is rooted in relationships, growth, and teamwork—values that align with the mission of First Presbyterian Day School to develop students in mind, body, and spirit.

“I fell in love with running during college and just got more involved on campus as Emory (his daughter) started running cross country,” Coach Thompson shared. “I have coached almost all of the varsity runners in middle school, and it is a great group of runners and parents. I am thrilled to take on a bigger role within the program.”

Coach Thompson and his wife, Katherine (FPD Class of ’95), are proud parents of three children: Olivia, Emory (11th grade), and Brooks (5th grade). The family is actively involved at Ingleside Baptist Church and deeply connected to the FPD community.

When he’s not coaching or counseling students, Coach Thompson enjoys reading, spending time at the beach, and watching sports.
