FPD Welcomes New Faculty for 2024–2025

First Presbyterian Day School is excited to welcome three outstanding educators into new or returning roles for the 2024–2025 school year. From early childhood to third grade, these passionate women bring heart, experience, and faith-filled leadership to Viking Nation.

Mrs. Tara Spillers returns to FPD as a 3rd grade teacher. A Macon native, Mrs. Spillers earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia. She previously taught 1st grade at Crawford County Elementary and at FPD, and most recently served as an elementary aide at FPD. A familiar face on campus and in the stands, Mrs. Spillers and her husband, Brandan (lead pastor at Open Bible Church in Lizella), have four children: Gavin (Class of 2024), Ava (rising junior), Levi (rising 8th grader), and Vanna (rising 6th grader).

In addition to teaching, Mrs. Spillers stays actively involved in her church by leading Bible classes, singing on the praise team, and creating digital content for worship services. Outside of church, she’s often cheering from the sidelines at her children's games. She enjoys painting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

“Education with a biblical worldview was a top priority when we chose FPD,” Mrs. Spillers said. “We’ve been a Viking family for 14 years, and I’m honored to now serve the same community that has had such a lifelong impact on our children.”

Ms. Pam Gibbons joins the preschool team as a Pre-K Aide. Also from Macon, she holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in special education from Georgia College & State University. Ms. Gibbons has previously served as a 3K lead teacher at Ingleside Baptist Church and a beginner teacher at Stratford Academy.

She is the proud mom of three adult children—Lacey, Mallory, and Walker—and grandmother to Molly and Hannah. Ms. Gibbons is active in local dog rescue organizations and enjoys watercolor painting and hand-making pottery.

“I’m excited to join a team that shares my values in educating young children,” she shared. “My goal is to foster a love for Christ and prepare students to move forward with confidence.”

Mrs. Amy Walthall joins FPD as a 3K Aide. She holds an associate’s degree in teacher education and a bachelor’s degree in health information management from Macon State College. Originally from Alabama, Mrs. Walthall now lives in Monroe County with her husband, Malcolm, and their two daughters: Caitlyn (8th grade) and Emmie (1st grade).

With years of experience volunteering with preschoolers at church, Mrs. Walthall is excited to be part of the daily life of the school. Her favorite pastimes include traveling, camping, fishing, reading, watching Alabama football, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves. “

We’ve been part of Viking Nation since 2015,” she said. “I’m excited to help students learn, grow, and glorify God in everything they do!”
