Summer Learning for
Middle School
Summer is a time to relax and recharge, but it’s also important to keep learning skills fresh. Research shows that students can lose progress over the summer—especially in math—if they don’t practice, while continued learning helps them return to school more prepared.
This assignment is designed to help middle school students stay confident, curious, and ready for the next grade level. With just a little practice each week, students can maintain their skills, build strong habits, and start the new school year set up for success.

Summer Math for Middle School Students
All students entering 4th through 12th grade will receive a Summer Math Packet aligned to their upcoming grade level or course. For Middle School, completion of the packet is highly recommended. The purpose of Summer Math at First Presbyterian Day School is to strengthen foundational skills, prevent summer learning loss, and help students retain important concepts from the previous school year. Regular math practice over the summer builds confidence, improves problem-solving skills, and creates a smoother transition into the next grade level or course. We understand that, even with review material, students may not remember every concept or skill. To support students, each packet will include a resource page with helpful tools and examples. Review time will also be provided at the beginning of the school year to answer questions and reinforce key topics before new instruction begins.
