Joy of Dance

FPD's dance program includes multiple styles of dance such as dance line & color guard, hip hop, prop dance, as well as classes in tap and jazz beginning in middle school. FPD dance teams have been providing spirit and entertainment at Friday night football games, fine arts concerts, and other events since 1988. The teams regularly receive high marks at state and regional competitions under the leadership of head coach Lydia Gray.

Dance Performance Options

Spirit of the Vikings Color Guard

The Spirit of the Vikings Vanguard performs at Friday night football games with the band, both at halftime with a show and throughout the game with spirit music to support the team. This group is comprised of 6th-12th graders.

Hip Hop & Pom

The Competition Hip Hop and Pom teams are comprised of 6th-12th grade students and compete yearly in state and regional competitions. Teams present their routines on campus during select pep rallies and at an end of year performance.

Prop Dance

FPD’s prop dance team, Propaganda, incorporates dance techniques that include the use of props to provide a rich, story-telling interpretive dance routine. The team competes in multiple competitions and performs regularly at amusement parks and other events.

Tap & Jazz Classes

FPD offers classes in tap and jazz beginning in middle school. These classes help students learn basic techniques of jazz and tap as well as an appreciation for theatrical dance.

Tryouts for the dance line & color guard are held in the spring of each year. Tryouts for the competition dance team are usually held in October but may vary. Contact Lydia Gray for information about either dance team.
