Ken Garvin Named Head Middle School Football Coach at FPD

First Presbyterian Day School is excited to announce that Mr. Ken Garvin will serve as Head Middle School Football Coach beginning with the 2024–2025 school year. A veteran coach and longtime leader in the FPD athletics community, Coach Garvin brings over two decades of experience, passion, and mentorship to this new role.

For more than 20 years, Coach Garvin has faithfully served as a key part of FPD’s varsity football coaching staff, impacting hundreds of young men through his leadership as Associate Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, and Offensive Line Coach.

“Ken has been a faithful servant to our football teams for 20 years,” said Athletic Director Greg Moore. “There’s simply no way to measure the life-changing impact he’s had on so many young men during that time. I’ve always appreciated his loyalty, hard work, and insight as both a colleague and a friend.”

Coach Garvin steps into the middle school head coach role following the retirement of Coach Rennie Atkinson, a longtime leader in the middle school program. Atkinson shared his full confidence in Garvin’s leadership.

“I’ve coached both against and alongside Coach Garvin,” Atkinson said. “He’s as knowledgeable as any top varsity head coach and will do a superb job leading our middle school program. FPD families are fortunate to have him coaching their sons.”

Varsity Head Coach Brett Collier echoed those sentiments: “It would be hard for me to overstate the impact Coach Garvin has had on our coaches and players over the past two decades. His consistency and commitment have shaped our football program and our students for God’s glory.”

While Coach Garvin will be missed on the varsity field, Collier expressed full confidence in what lies ahead. “Our middle school families can be certain their sons will be coached hard and coached the right way. Ken is the perfect fit to lead our next generation of Viking athletes.”
