Keon Johnson Named Gatorade Georgia Baseball Player of the Year
Junior standout Keon Johnson has just earned one of the highest honors in high school athletics—Gatorade Georgia Baseball Player of the Year for 2024-25. This award doesn’t just recognize Keon’s incredible performance on the field—it celebrates his leadership in the classroom and his heart for serving others. He’s the kind of student-athlete who makes the entire FPD community proud.
“FPD's entire athletic department, and in particular our baseball program, celebrate this prestigious achievement for Keon," Head Baseball Coach Greg Moore said. "His enthusiasm, hard work, and deep loyalty to being a better baseball player and teammate is an example for all."
Now in its 40th year, the Gatorade Player of the Year program is the gold standard for high school athletic achievement across the country. Past winners include sports legends like Gary Sheffield, Clayton Kershaw, and recent standout Konnor Griffin. Keon now takes his place among this elite group, representing FPD and the state of Georgia with pride.
This season, Keon has been nothing short of extraordinary. As a 6'2", 190-pound shortstop, he led the Vikings to a 32-3 record and a berth in the GIAA Class AAAA state championship game. His stats speak for themselves: a .524 batting average, 10 home runs, 67 runs scored, 47 RBIs, and a .643 on-base percentage over 35 games. He also stole 25 bases without being caught and struck out just six times in 142 plate appearances. He was named the 2025 GIAA District 6 Region Player of the Year and is currently ranked as the #6 prospect nationally in the Class of 2026 by Prep Baseball.
But Keon’s impact extends far beyond the field. He’s completed over 120 hours of community service during his high school career, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia, and helping younger athletes through youth baseball clinics.
“Keon Johnson is a true student of the game,” said Jason Godbee, Head Baseball Coach at Bulloch Academy. “He approaches baseball with humility and passion, constantly learning and helping his teammates grow. His leadership makes everyone around him better.”
In addition to his athletic and service accomplishments, Keon maintains a 3.40 GPA and has verbally committed to play baseball at Vanderbilt University starting in the fall of 2026.
As part of the Gatorade Player of the Year program, Keon will also have the opportunity to give back through a special grant to support a nonprofit of his choice—part of Gatorade’s mission to empower student-athletes to make a positive impact in their communities.
We could not be more proud of Keon and the way he represents FPD in every arena—athletics, academics, and service.
