New Faculty Roles at FPD: Janet Strickland Named Lower School Librarian, Keena McClure to Serve as Lead 3K Teacher
First Presbyterian Day School is excited to announce two key internal staff appointments for the upcoming school year. Mrs. Janet Strickland and Mrs. Keena McClure, both familiar and cherished members of the FPD community, will step into new roles on campus. Viking Nation is grateful for their continued commitment to Christian education and student growth.
Janet Strickland Named Lower School Librarian
Beginning this summer, Mrs. Janet Strickland will serve as Lower School Librarian, continuing her long-standing dedication to FPD’s youngest learners. Over the past three years, she has worked as a Lower School Aide and has also served as a substitute teacher and Enrichment Program Coordinator.
With a Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education from Northern Arizona University, Mrs. Strickland brings 25 years of preschool teaching experience from three different states. She has also played an active role in the FPD Theatre Program, contributing behind the scenes in multiple capacities.
“It is an honor to continue my love of storytelling and teaching in our wonderful elementary library, where I have been able to assist our retiring librarian, Mrs. Cyndi Darnell, for the past few years,” said Mrs. Strickland. “I am beyond excited!”
She is married to Dr. Andrew Strickland, FPD’s Head of Fine Arts and Theatre/Dance Instructor. They have two sons: Luke (Class of 2023) and Caedmon, a current junior at FPD.
Keena McClure to Serve as Lead 3K Teacher
After faithfully serving as a Preschool Aide for 14 years, Mrs. Keena McClure has been named Lead 3K Teacher for FPD’s preschool program. She brings a warm presence, strong classroom experience, and a versatile professional background to this new leadership role.
Mrs. McClure earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Auburn University and previously worked in both banking and event coordination. She and her husband, Darin (Class of 1984), have two children: Maddie (Class of 2019), who lives in New York City, and Henry (Class of 2024), who will attend Washington & Lee University in the fall.
“I’m excited to take on the responsibility of lead teacher,” said Mrs. McClure. “Fun fact: the Class of 2025 was the very first group of students I worked with at FPD!”
